The First Day of Summer is Right Around the Corner! My Top Tips for the Best Summer Skincare Routine

Summer is a time for fun in the sun, but it's also important to take care of your skin. The hot weather, increased sun exposure, and humidity can wreak havoc on your complexion if you're not prepared. In this two-part article series, we will explore the best summer skincare routine to keep your skin healthy and glowing throughout the season. In Part 1, we will cover the first five essential tips. So, let's dive in and discover how to achieve your best summer skin!

1. Remove Dull, Winter Skin First things first: Get rid of all traces of winter to help your clear, healthy skin shine through! A great way to do this is by using the Vita-Boost Vitamin Infusion Serum. Apply a thin layer to your face and neck to revive your complexion and brighten any dull patches left over from the winter. This serum contains 20 percent vitamin C, the highest concentration available in skincare products today. However, avoid exfoliating right before sun exposure, as it can make your skin more sensitive.

2. Get Rid of Oil and Bacteria

To remove oil and grime that might be on your skin, daily cleansing is essential. I recommend using Foaming Joy! Purifying Facial Cleanser, which contains hydrating and purifying ingredients to cleanse without stripping your skin. If you have oily skin during the summer, opt for a foaming cleanser like CeraVe Foaming Cleanser. Additionally, for a finishing touch to your makeup, I recommend Colorscience SPF powder. It not only absorbs excess oil but also provides excellent sun protection.

3. Apply Sunscreen Before Going Outdoors

No summer skincare routine can skip SPF! Applying sunscreen is crucial for protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. Use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30, which blocks out 97 percent of the UVB (burning) rays. If you plan to swim or exercise outdoors and work up a sweat, look for water-resistant sunscreens that won't wash off easily. Remember to reapply every three hours, especially if you have oily skin or frequently touch your face. Pro tip: Keep trial/sample sizes of SPF everywhere, from your bag and desk to your car and pockets.

4. Don't Restrict Sunscreen to Your Face

While protecting your face from the sun is important, don't forget about other exposed areas of your body. Apply sunscreen to the back of your neck, the top of your ears, and the backs of your hands. If you're using a retinoid or vitamin C product, your skin may become more sun sensitive, making sunscreen even more crucial. Opt for thinner chemical sunscreens for daily use, as they are easier to apply and blend into the skin seamlessly.

5. Go for Multi-Purpose Skin Protection

If heavy makeup isn't your preference for summer but you still want sufficient coverage, consider using multifunctional skincare products. One such product is AlastinHydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36. It combines sunscreen, environmental protection, moisturizer, and foundation in one beautiful formulation and convenient pump. This lightweight product goes on easily, feels great on the skin, and is easy to remove. Another option is SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion Tinted SPF 50, which blends easily without leaving a yellow tint.
